An Anker-informed teaching model: monthly household needs, a margin for unexpected costs, and full-time equivalent earners. Actual Anker studies require specified standards, fieldwork and technical review.

In benchmark mode, earners, margin and deductions are ignored; pay and benchmark must have the same net or gross basis. In the food-share exercise, the model uses one worker’s wage to cover total family needs, so earners and margin are ignored. In the teaching models, gross pay is converted to net using your deduction assumption.

How each mode works

Household basket

Monthly costs = sum of six categories. Add the selected unexpected-cost margin. Divide by full-time equivalent earners. Gross equivalent = net need ÷ (1 − estimated deduction rate).

Family cost basket

Monthly food = adults × adult food + children × child food. Add shared expenses and margin. Divide by earners; handle deductions as in the household basket.

Food-share exercise

Monthly food = food cost per adult unit × 3 units. If food is 45% of the total, family needs = food ÷ 0.45. This omits the alliance’s fieldwork and PPP steps.

Published benchmark

Gap = max(0, benchmark − comparable pay). Gap % = gap ÷ benchmark × 100. Match place, date, normal hours, and gross/net basis before interpreting it.
